So the hunt for Bill’s famed grilled cheese at Borough Market finally commenced today after 3 weeks of indecision, chronic laziness, and “i blame the weather” (but really still laziness)…i finally dragged myself to Borough market on Saturday to look for the stand…and FINALLy found it behind the Cathedral, surrounded by people. but it wasn’t long until i had my paws on my very own sandwich (pictured above missing a corner because i coudln’t wait until after the picture to take a bite =)) And thennnnn, after a couple of bites, disappointment slowly set in…maybe i had expected too much…maybe i played it up too much…maybe i had set it up for disappointment…I mean it was still yummy…bread buttered and toasted to perfection sandwiching a mound of gooey, melted cheese with bits of union…happy in an artery-clogging way…it was good, but not in the “editor of gourmet magazine declares this to be the best of london and countless food bloggers agree” sense…i thought it was kind of salty. maybe my taste buds just have high standards or are spoiled or just plain weird…but yah, thus ends my adventures to track down the sammy.

Also went to the Swedish Christmas market…i think if i were swedish and homesick or just hungry for tastes of home, i would’ve been in heaven. except i’m not and i can’t read swedish so i didn’t know what most of the foodstuffs they were selling were.. there were some artsy craftsy stuff (including a very awesome looking spoon with holes in it for straining olives) but ultimately i controlled myself and came away with nothing but a small bag of swedish fish as a souvenir. i’ve always wanted to try swedish fish…

coventgarden.jpg

Covent garden!! where eliza doolittle first meets henry higgins in “My Fair Lady” or something..I don’t really remember the film that much..anyway that scene was in front of the pillars, not in the market…i think…but the pillars looked kind of drab and sad so here’s a picture of the inner market instead =) I spent the ENTIRE afternoon looking for a peacoat but to no avail. i think i’m cursed and i’ll never be able to find a peacoat..i seriously looked everywhere in covent garden and then wandered over to oxford st. and regent st…if i coudln’t find it there, i don’t think i’ll ever be able to find one *sigh* oh well…on the bright side, i found ben’s cookies!!!! i first had them in Oxford with Jessica and i thought they were only an Oxford thing, but i guess not…i probably looked stupid, celebrating and smiling weirdly in front of the stand by myself…they didn’t have my chocolate and orange flavor, but the dark chocolate chunk wasn’t half bad =) i’m convinced these are the bestest cookies ever…well maybe not EVER, but they are super yummy. was also stopped by an evangelising malaysian today at covent garden..seriously, i think i have a look that just makes them talk to me, and once they hone in on me, i kind of hesitate for a second and that second is all it takes for them to catch me and reel me in. so i said i didn’t have any money and walked away after a couple minutes of politely listening but thennnnn as i’m leaving covent garden who do i run into but the SAME EVANGELISING MALAYSIAN…so i’m like “crap..great…i go out of my way just to avoid hiim only to run into him again” so i’m like “er, i think i have a pound….” and surrendered it. i guess i’ll just put that down as my good deed of the day..although i’m not really sure what cause i just supported -_-

hm, i was going to go on about Thanksgiving, but i think i’ve gone on long enough…it’s already past thanksgiving anyway so a couple more days won’t matter…

plumpeyyyy!! that sandwich looks SO GOOD!!! GAHHHH!!! haha i love how you had to take a bite before taking a picture. it’s okay, i would have done the same thing. i can’t wait to go to london! it seems like there are so many exciting things to hunt down! over thanksgiving i bought a coat for london purposes! i’m very very very berry berry excited!!!!! don’t be weak to the evangelising malaysians! how do you know he was malaysian? but i really think you need to stand your ground! just harden yourself and let yourself be hostile! it’s the only way!!!! hehe you said “union” i wasn’t sure if it was on purpose or not, but it’s so cute if you don’t think of it as union as in state of the union. okayyyyy i’ll talk to you laterrrr!
